"BOX 1.1 The Text of the 1680 Act to Prevent the Destroying and Murdering of Bastard Children
Whereas many Lewd Women that have been delivered of Bastard Children, to avoid their shame and to escape punishment do secretly bury or conceal the Death of their Children; and after, if the Child be found dead, the said Women do alledge that the said Child was born dead, whereas it falleth out some times (although hardly it is to be proved), that the said Child or Children were Murthered by the said Women, their lewd Mothers, or by their assent or procurement.
For the preventing therefore of this great mischief, Be it Enacted by the Authority of this present Parliament, that if any Women after one month next ensuing the end of this next Session of Parliament, be delivered of any Issue of her body, Male or Female, which being born alive, should by the Laws of this Realm be a bastard, and that the endeavour privately either by drowning or secret burying thereof, or any other way, either by her self or the procuring of others, so to conceal the death thereof, as that it may not come to light, whether it were born alive or not, but be concealed; In every such case, the said Mother so offending shall suffer Death, as in case of murther, except such Mother can make proof by one Witness at the least, that the Child (whose death by her so intended to be concealed) was born dead (Vvagstaffe, 1680)" (Grant, 2003).

L'extrait couvre le bloc d'informations suivant du manuel du collège:
"ENCADRÉ 1.1 Le texte de la loi de 1680 pour prévenir la destruction et le meurtre d'enfants bâtards
Tandis que beaucoup de Femmes Lâches qui ont été délivrées d'Enfants Bâtards, pour éviter leur honte et échapper à la punition secrètement enterrer ou dissimuler la Mort de leurs Enfants; et après, si l'Enfant est retrouvé mort, lesdites Femmes font alliance que ledit Enfant est né mort, alors qu'il tombe quelques fois (bien que ce soit à peine prouvé), que ledit Enfant ou ces Enfants ont été Mérovingés par ladite Les femmes, leurs mères obscènes, ou par leur consentement ou leur achat.
Pour éviter ainsi ce grand méfait, Qu'il soit promulgué par l'autorité de ce Parlement actuel, que si des femmes après un mois suivant la fin de la prochaine session du Parlement, être délivré de toute question de son corps, homme ou femme qui, étant né vivant, devrait être par les lois de ce royaume un bâtard, et que l'effort privé soit par noyade ou enterrement secret de celui-ci, ou de toute autre manière, soit par soi ou le proxénétisme des autres, afin de cacher la mort Pour que cela ne vienne pas à la lumière, qu'elle soit née vivante ou non, mais qu'elle soit cachée; Dans chaque cas, la dite Mère offensante souffrira la Mort, comme dans le cas d'une mère plus âgée, à moins qu'une telle Mère ne puisse prouver par un Témoin au moins, que l'Enfant (dont elle voulait la mort) était né mort.
